Fighter

Heralded as the first true class book for the d20 system, The Quintessential Fighter provides vital information for any player wishing to exploit his Fighter character to the fullest. Since the game was first created, many years ago, Fighters have always had a rough deal when compared to the more esoteric classes such as Cleric, Rogue and Wizard. The Quintessential Fighter redresses this balance, taking the Fighter class further than it has ever been before.
Weighing in at 128 pages, The Quintessential Fighter is jam-packed full of useful rules and rules sub-systems, making this class ever more flexible and capable.

Rogue

The second in Mongoose Publishing's acclaimed series of class books, The Quintessential Rogue provides a wealth of new options and rules anyone player who loves playing a more subtle character. In previous editions of the game, rogues occupied a narrow niche as thieves, burglars, or footpads. Now, with the advent of the d20 system, the rogue covers a huge array of spies, scouts, explorers, and other exciting new roles. The Quintessential Rogue examines this new definition of rogues in detail.

27.95

Cleric

Taking an in depth look at Clerics within the d20 system, this 128 page sourcebook is dedicated to players interested in running Cleric-classed characters. Written by Sam Witt (Chaos Magic), this sourcebook gives a wealth of new skills, feats and prestige classes but The Quintessential Cleric sets itself apart by introducing many new character options that any Cleric may attempt. As well as introducing many new tricks of the trade, players will also be able to access the deepest secrets of congregations, building temples and drawing upon the raw power of faith. The Quintessential Cleric is a toolkit for every player wishing to exploit the full capabilities of his or her character.

28.95

Wizard

The wise old sage, stooped and walking with a staff, good-natured and kindly yet terrifying if angered. The lean, wily battle wizard, festooned with bandoliers of magical throwing daggers and wands. The tribal magician, feathered rattle in hand, tattoos shimmering with magical force. The vile necromancer, lurking in his subterranean lair, plotting to rule the land. All these are examples of the wizard, the character class without which no game could be considered high fantasy. The Quintessential Wizard is a sourcebook that will greatly expand this class, fleshing out the wizard from his typical role as a source of magical artillery to a character with more options and variants than any other in the game.

28.95

Elf

Living for an eternity, elves are free spirits of nature made flesh, revelling in their connection with all things magical and proud of the power flowing in their blood. The unseen voice echoing among the trees with a promise of swift death to any intruder, the master shaper who asks nature to co-operate in the building of fantastical dwellings, the warrior who charges into the field atop a flying beast, the child whose soul is still strong with the power of the fey, the renegade who worships dark deities deep below the ground, the artist who keeps magic and tradition alive through song and dance, the wizard who bends magic to his will by the power of his ancient blood. All of these are a few examples of elves, the most traditional and vivid of all fantasy races.

29.95

Dwarf

With a heavy pick slung over his shoulder, the bearded miner heads deep into the earth in search of precious metals and gemstones. The smith swings his hammer again and again, beating half-molten metal into cleaving axes and crushing hammers. Crouched in the stygian depths of the underland, a lone scout watches as his enemies prowl past and waits for his chance to strike. Burrowing through the underland, a merchant guides his caravan toward the Silverbore and the riches beyond.

29.95

Monk

The square jawed, half-orc boxer, yearning to be a legitimate champion but beholden to the whims of a gangster cartel. The halfling acrobat, running up walls and tumbling from rooftop to rooftop as easily as he cartwheels across the stage. The serene elf bodyguard, slender and graceful but able to crush a giant's skull with a single kick. The wandering philosopher, slow to anger but an implacable defender of the poor. All are monks and all can be created using the rules and guidelines presented here, in The Quintessential Monk.

28.95

Witch

Witches, a word that invokes fear, confusion and superstition. These feelings are well grounded in culture; from folklore to fairytale to play, witches appear as shadowy figures with a malevolent intent; or as noble and kind hearted individual who risk their all to save an innocent child. The witch can fit into either stereotype with ease. Some miles away an aged figure labours to birth a dying infant, sensing the baby's distress, he invokes the goddess and the deathly pallor is replaced by a vibrant pinkish hue. A full moon stares down from a blanket of infinite gemstones and passing beyond its face is the silhouette of a robed woman, with pointed hat, riding upon a broomstick. All of these are examples of the witch as he has been seen from a host of varied perspectives ranging from village elder to servant of dark forces. The Quintessential Witch is a sourcebook designed to add a new class to those presented in Core Rulebook I. Within this volume players and Games Masters alike will have at their fingertips the material needed to play a character that is on the one hand compelling and on the other despised.

29.95

Psychic Warrior

When mind and steel are joined to a common purpose, the psychic warrior is the result. Combining mental techniques with combat skills, the psychic warrior is a competent fighter with a plethora of dazzling abilities hidden up his sleeve. Want to run up a wall and strike at an opponent from overhead? How about suddenly gaining an extra action while in combat? Or merge a weapon with your body so it is never out of reach? All of these and more lie within the grasp of the psychic warrior.

28.95

Druid

The strange woman tending to her herbs in her apothecary, her plants seemingly invested with strange magical properties that only she can reap. The mysterious old man out in the wilderness, surrounded by the ancient stones built before there was human civilisation. The robed and wizened figure leading the land's champion to kingship. The tribal guardian tending to the newest of civilisations or the face-painted warrior that will stop at nothing to end the encroachment of civilisation into his lands; all of these are examples of the Druid, a member of the oldest and most powerful organisation in all the world and a powerful individual in his own right.

28.95

Samurai

Rising from humble beginnings, the samurai rose to become one of the greatest powers of ancient Japan. Combining viciousness and ruthless tactics with a rigid code of honour and indomitable willpower, these fabled warriors managed to transform themselves from elite combatants into a powerful social and political force. In this book you will find the information you need to follow the way of the sword and groom a samurai character of your own. Whether you choose to pursue the martial arts and become a master with the blade or engage in the tricky manoeuvrings of the Court with a tongue of acid and a razor-sharp wit, this book has the information you need.

28.95

Paladin

Protect the innocent, uphold the law. These are the basic tenets and the core definition of a paladin, one of the hardest character classes to role-play, as they follow a straight and all-too-narrow path in the course of their adventuring lives. Defending truth and justice against the endless attempts of evil to subvert or destroy them, the paladin stands at the gate, holding the bridge… and none shall pass.

28.95

Psion

The world of the Psion is a strange and wondrous place. Where others see magic or spirits, the Psion is aware of the flows of thought and ideas. Able to exert tremendous control over himself and others, the Psion is a master of mental energy and a creature who studies a much different type of science. By drawing upon his internal energies, the Psion frees himself from a depenedence on the mystical flows of magic or the vagaries of fickle gods on high. Unlike the arcane or divine spellcaster, the Psion depends only on himself and the psionic energy produced within his mind. This gives him a great deal of flexibility, allowing him to call upon any power his knows and can fuel. Within the pages of this book, you will find new ways to expand and enhance the powers of pcionics, providing the Psion with new options and augmentations for his existing abilities.

28.95

Barbarian

Without a doubt the toughest of all character classes, the Barbarian gets his spoils in the Quintessential Barbarian. The Quintessentials are designed to take you characters from levels 1 - 20 and your campaigns further than you ever thought they could go.

28.95

Quintessential Ranger

The ranger is potentially one of the most powerful character classes in the game. He is a good, solid combatant, but with a far greater array of off-the-battlefield class features than the fighter, barbarian or paladin, and more skills to boot. He may not have the feats of a fighter or rage of the barbarian, but on his own ground, in his element, there is no-one to match him. He is full of surprises, too, throwing in a spell here, using his preferred combat style to deadly effect there, then demonstrating some other unexpected quality before finally just plain enduring through whatever obstacles are placed before him, as grimly resolute as the day he set out on his quest.

28.95

Quintessential Halfling

In this sourcebook, halfling players will find a veritable feast of new options and ideas for their characters. The book kicks off with character concepts, a set of ideas and suggestions for different types of halfling character, from the friendless black sheep to the faithful hero's sidekick, each with their own unique quirks and reasons for adventuring. A chapter of prestige classes explores new options and powers for higher-level characters, as well as delving into important positions in halfling culture like the Clan Matriarch or Clan Defender. New tricks let the halflings do what they do best, such as assimilating into cultures, confidence tricks, and cooking. New feats are included to support these tricks as well as giving new options for halflings in combat. Tools of the Halflings contains a host of new items crafted and used by the small folk.

26.95

Quintessential Half Orc

At their core, half-orcs raised by humans are not as different as those taken in by an orcish tribe even if their outward demeanour is completely different. A runt raised by orcs learns to endure the physical abuse of other orcs his age, just like a bastard child must endure the psychological and emotional torture of growing up in human society; orcish snaketongues know themselves smarter than their peers and worm their way around obstacles all the while human bully banes use their superior strength to endear themselves to the weak, whom they defend with a mixture of altruism and a need to feel appreciated. Even those rare half-orcs who grow up without ties to either society or as a result of both have the same core of rage, shame and resentment that makes up most of a half-orc’s mindset.

26.95

Quintessential Human

To many players, a human character is an ideal eidolon or avatar. It allows escapism while simultaneously letting you see yourself in your character’s situation. There is no need to adopt an alien mindset or try to roleplay a person who lives by non-human values. Humans are and always have been the easy choice of race. On account of their versatility, they have unfairly been seen as essentially bland and uninteresting. It is not necessary to detail humans in the game world, because everyone already knows all about them. What is there to say about humans, the opt-out choice of character race, the race that offers nothing in the way of racial features but the increased versatility of additional skill points and bonus feats?

29.95

Chaos Mage

The nature of chaos is not endless change, though it may seem otherwise. Constant, unceasing change is predictable, it is understandable, it is its own form of order, and just as much the antithesis of chaos as immutable, static sameness is.

So it is with chaos sorcery. Chaos magicians can use their control of chaos energy to cast spells in a near infinite number of permutations, limited only by their imagination and their strength of will. Even a novice chaos mage is more versatile than his bard, sorcerer, and wizard peers, and a powerful chaos mage could, conceivably, weave a hundred spells each day and never cast the same one twice.

26.95

Tricks of the trade expands the range of tactics a fighter can use in the field, while weapon mastery and attack moves describe a series of advanced techniques that a fighter can master for even more devastating effects.

In the Prestige Cleric, you will discover the joys of martyrdom and learn the secrets of ascending to the ranks of the angels or falling to stand at the right hand of the demon kings of basalt and flame.

26.95

Quintessential Rogue II

For rogues at the bottom end of the pecking order, the greatest reward is to survive to the end of another hand-to-mouth day with a pocket full of pilfered silvers and a bottle of sour wine. Life on the streets is nasty, brutish and short, with many fish and not enough pond to go round. Few of these ragamuffins and tatterdemalions give much thought to achievement as rogues. For them, the issue is one of survival, not of possible eventual attainment. They live on the edge, taking ever greater risks until one day the net closes and they are left wriggling on the end of a hempen rope.

26.95

Paladine II

The paladin is the quintessential hero, the knight in shining armour, the holy warrior, the crusader – the champion. He is the sword against evil, he is the bright line of fire against the darkness. It is he that rides out against the horrors and says ‘no further’.

His burden is a heavy one – utter perfection is demanded from him. On the one side, the stern gods of good wait to judge his every action, ready to strip his sacred powers from him should he fail to be a moral exemplar. On the other, all the ravening hordes of hell yearn to rip his shining armour into shreds and feast on his still-beating heart.

26.95

Barbarian II

The barbarian is, arguably, the iconic character of fantasy, with the wizard and the knight his only rivals for the title. The barbarian is a romantic figure, a savage who knows nothing of fear, who speaks his mind at all times, who treads the width and breadth of the world doing as he will, not bound by morality or any of the mundane concerns which so trouble the civilized man. The barbarian is strength and fury, he is a survivor, a warrior who stands like a colossus above all others who dare claim the title, a man of titanic rages and passions whose animal nature inspires lust in curvaceous maidens.

24.95

The Quintessential Druid II

Unlike all the other classes, the druids have strong tie to the land and a unique perspective on the world. All too often, this can degenerate into a stereotype of a tree-hugging xenophobe, a deranged market gardener more interested in driving trespassers out of the woods than in adventuring. This book aims to shatter this style of play and bring back the mystery, mysticism and sacred power of the druid. Their roots are old and deep and dark…

27.95

Ranger II

The Quintessential Ranger II, is a celebration of all that the ranger is, all that he has been and all that he can be. Inside this sourcebook, you will find page after page of all-new material, every bit of it intended to give the ranger the edge he needs to overcome any challenges the Games Master sees fit to throw his way.

24.95

Bard II

Combining their innate talent for magic, his adeptness at learning and his ability to deal with people, bards occupy an exceptional niche in any group as the party’s representative, leader and support, and The Quintessential Bard II: Advanced Tactics provides all the necessary tools for the bard to become a legend at such roles.
